Access

This will be through the usual entrances. As there will not be direct access through all the columns it may take longer to get everyone seated and therefore we would encourage groups to arrive in good time. The Youth groups will be on hand to direct and assist.
Seating

This year we are going to be joined in Lourdes by the Le Frat a French youth pilgrimage. They use the Underground Basilica for their main worship and alter the Basilica by removing the seating and laying carpet over the floor. Curtains are also be erected in front of the columns and the altar is extended back to the Bishop's chair to create a stage.

It will provide a very different feel to the Basilica, creating a more intimate atmosphere.

A few benches will be placed around the perimeter in front of the curtains and at the ends of the basilica but will be outside the line of the curtains. We would encourage groups to bring cushions, mats, rugs, low level folding stools and even lilos!, but not directors chairs or similar. As there will be no formal seating it will be important for groups to be mindful not to spread out but to make space for all. We would also encourage those that are able, to be taken out of their wheelchairs to sit / lie on the floor with their groups.

The youth groups will be on hand to assist with seating.

WheelchairsThose who need to remain in wheelchairs will be able to do so. We would ask that they are positioned towards the end of rows near the curtains. This will then allow those sitting on the floor to have a better view. There will also be 2 wheelchair parks as usual.
Reserving seats

As in previous years this will be discouraged and the youth groups and marshals will discourage those trying to reserve areas from doing so. If you want a good position nearer the front we ask that you allow adequate time to arrive promptly.

Standing /dancingSo that all can see, participate and enjoy the mass please ensure that your group remain seated at all times during the mass.
Bishops/ ChaplainsAt the beginning of the Mass the procession will be from both ends of the basilica. We would ask your chaplain to gather at the end where their group is seated.

Bishops to gather in sacristy. They will be directed to which of the basilica they will process in from.
